The long goodbye of Brooks and Dunn can’t go on when Ronnie Dunn’s voice needs a break. The greatest duo in country music has been hitting the road hard with their “Last Rodeo Tour” that will end their 20 year career together. Apparently Ronnie Dunn has been singing a little too much in the past few weeks. “Following my doctor’s order, shutting up, getting well and comin’ back asap!” Dunn added to the press statement via text message. Their final stop on the “Last Rodeo Tour” was intended to be on August 10th in Nashville. This show has been moved to September 2nd. Check out all of the changes to their “Last Rodeo Tour” below.

Country music’s most famous duo, Brooks and Dunn, made an appearance yesterday in Knoxville, Tennessee, to dedicate a new Habitat for Humanity house known as the “Brooks & Dunn House.” The house is the first in a planned development of Habitat homes known as “Music Row.” With support from the Charlie and Moll Anderson Foundation, a new home will be built each year from proceeds raised through charity concerts hosted by the foundation. As the performers at the first benefit concert for Knoxville Habitat for Humanity, Brooks & Dunn helped launch this important drive to bring affordable housing to Knoxville residents in need. They returned to Knoxville today to see the fruits of their labor and to welcome the new homeowner and her family into their new home—“The Brooks & Dunn House.”

Even though the homes are underwritten by the foundation, the homes are not given away. In lieu of a down payment, all Knoxville Habitat for Humanity homeowners are required to complete 500 hours of sweat equity, mostly in the form of budgeting and homeowner classes. In addition, the family pays a mortgage on the home that is at zero-percent over 25 to 30 years.

Habitat for Humanity does such great work. It is no surprise that country music artists like Brooks and Dunn are constantly jumping on board with great charities to devote their time and talents to help people in need. This is just one more example of the amazing work that is done by those in country music.

Following the ACM Awards in April, many of the stars stuck around for an extra day to take part in the ACM’s Brooks and Dunn “Last Rodeo” Tribute Concert. Below is a behind the scenes look at the photo shoot with more country music stars sitting together then you have probably ever seen. You can also get a sneak peak at the performance by Kenny Chesney at the Broooks and Dunn Tribute by following the link to HearSomethingCountry.com.

Brooks and Dunn1 300x199 Fan Review: Brooks and Dunn Tribute Concert!!!
We are very excited that one of OCR’s readers was at the ACM Brooks and Dunn Tribute Concert on Monday night after the ACM Awards on Sunday. Allison was kind enough to tell us about the show and her experience in Vegas during ACM weekend. Enjoy!

My friend, Shawny, won a trip to Vegas to see the Kenny Chesney Movie Premiere “Summer in 3D” and Brooks and Dunn: The Last Rodeo Tribute. I was so excited to go to both, but mostly the Brooks and Dunn Tribute. It was at the Grand Arena and we were sitting center, but almost to the top. I was sitting next to this guy who was the Program Director for KISM in Idaho and he had mentioned that at the ACM Awards the night before, Matthew McConaughey was there for that and I was like, “OMG do you think he will be here tonight?”

Well before the show started the spokesman said we had to tape applause, so he would say something like “so and so just won for something” and then we would all erupt in cheer. That went on for a little bit. Then Taylor Swift came out and told a funny story about how Ronnie does an impression of her by tossing her hair back and forth and then Kix says, “That is the only time in 20 years I have ever seen him mess his hair up.”
Keith Urban 1 300x264 Fan Review: Brooks and Dunn Tribute Concert!!!
Keith Urban started it off with “Brand New Man” and started us off rocking.

Faith Hill was there and blew us away, again, with her stellar vocals on “The Long Goodbye”. She started with a funny story of how Brooks and Dunn put a thawing Eel in her bed when she was on tour with them and how she always checks under her covers now before sleeping. She mentioned that after that happened to her, one time the immigration detained them for over an hour one time and wonders how that happened – she ends that with, “you’re welcome”. During the commercial break 2 butler types came out with fried eel for Brooks and Dunn to eat.

When George Strait came on (eruption, and screaming) and says, “When people ask me what I listen too, I tell them 3 words – Brooks and Dunn,” and then sang “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” – that was incredible. Standing O.

It was interesting that after every performance we would wait like 1 – 3 minutes and then the announcer would count us down to come back and we would applause. Totally new perspective on a show we see on TV like this now and how the process is completed.

My favorite performance of the night was Rascal Flatts singing “It’s Getting Better All The Time”. They harmonized so unbelievably that I am praying that they release this version to buy on iTunes or something after the show airs. It will bring anyone to tears.

Lady Antebellum sang a flawless version of, “If You See Him, If You See Him” – only to have Reba and Ronnie come in half way through and sing the 2nd verse and then the 4 of them finished it out taking their perspective turns on the lines. Definite highlight in the evening.
taylor sings to bandd Fan Review: Brooks and Dunn Tribute Concert!!!
Kenny Chesney sang “Your Going to Miss Me When I’m Gone” – awesome.
Carrie Underwood sang “Neon Moon” – Perfect as always.
Reba’s version of “Indian Summer” with some video was beautiful.
Jason Aldean sang “How Long Gone” (twice, reported that there was a technical difficulty or something)
Darius Rucker sang “Hard Working Man” – amazing.
Tim McGraw sang “That Ain’t No Way to Go”.
Brad Paisley sang “My Next Broken Heart”.
Taylor Swift sang “Ain’t Nothing Bout You” (jumping and hair tossing as usual) introduced by iCarly’s Miranda Cosgrove.

The most impressive performances of the evening were Jennifer Hudson’s version of “Believe” and Sugarland’s “Red Dirt Road”. First Jennifer Hudson: Can you just say Another League. She is unBELIEVEable. I mean she killed it. We were all silent and in awe of this pure beauty and perfection. Then after she sang it the announcer said that we liked it so much that she was going to sing it again. What? Well I don’t know the real reason that she sang it twice, but how lucky for us that we got to hear her sing “Believe” twice. We all cried and I thought the first time she sang Believe that it was incredible and couldn’t have been better – I was WRONG, she was even better the 2nd time. Man wait till you see what she does with that song.

Second Sugarland’s Red Dirt Road. They sang the song soft and rearranged it a little bit, playing with only the piano and then light guitar. Harmonized, slowed it down, and it was just really beautiful.

Allison's Approximate View of the Show

We were really exhausted from all the screaming and oh yes, Matthew McConaughey did come and introduce (I forget who, because I was screaming so loud) , but he was so cute and it was an awesome surprise. I think that was everyone. It was cool to just see the artists sitting down and watching the show like us, watching the process and seeing all the cameras and lights. What an incredible night. I will never forget it.

I think all of us are excited about May 23rd after reading about this amazing experience. Thank you Allison for sharing with us.

If you are attending a concert, we would love to hear about your experience. Email us at bigpapa@ourcountryroad.com and tell us your concert story.

Top 10 Moments for Brooks and Dunn

brooks dunnx large 284x300 Top 10 Moments for Brooks and Dunn
USA Today has this article on the career of Brooks and Dunn. Last night’s performance on the ACMs was tremendous. I can’t wait until the Brooks and Dunn Tribute concert airs on May 23rd. Here is the article.

Kix Brooks
1. When he realized, “This is it.”

The roar of the crowd was so great when the duo played Arco Arena in Sacramento that Brooks thought, “Man, are they really screaming for us? Good grief.”

2. First Academy of Country Music Awards.

“We won two awards that night, and it was the same week Neon Moon went No. 1. It was the perfect storm, and our sales kind of doubled.”

3. A wake-up call from home.

After Brooks got back from his first really long stretch on the road, his 4-year-old son asked his wife an innocent question that shocked the singer into re-evaluating his priorities: “Is he spending the night here tonight?”

4. His father sees him win ACM’s entertainer of the year.

“He always told me that I had the talent and encouraged me to compete on the national level.”

5. A $10,000-a-hole charity golf game he had no shot of winning.

Brooks was invited to play in a charity tournament against professional golfers Natalie Gulbis, John Daly and Arnold Palmer. “I stayed up all night partying and playing guitar and had to get up the next morning and tee off at 8. I won the skins game.”

6. Brooks & Dunn play at George W. Bush’s inauguration.

“You are standing there at the Lincoln Memorial on this huge stage next to Colin Powell, and you’re playing your music. That we were allowed an opportunity like that was pretty humbling.”

7. Going to Iraq with songwriter Bob DiPiero to play for U.S. troops.

“That was something I wanted to do, something I wanted to see, and something no one would have cared about if it wasn’t for Brooks & Dunn.”

8. Playing Radio City Music Hall.

When Brooks was “7 or 8,” his dad took him to see The Rockettes and The Odd Couple at Radio City. “And then the next time I went to New York City, I was playing on that stage.”

9. The Country Music Association Awards’ hotly contested move to New York in 2005.

Brooks was chairman of the CMA board that year, and he and Dunn were the show’s hosts. “I didn’t want to come out of there with everybody saying, ‘I told you so,’ and I don’t think they were.”

10. A different kind of radio play.

Brooks, who hosts the syndicated radio show American Country Countdown, just signed on for another three years. “I don’t think there’s a bigger country music fan out there than me, so it’s really fun to be able to share that.”

Ronnie Dunn

1. An announcement from American Airlines.

“When our first song, Brand New Man, made No. 1, my wife, Janine, was so excited that she called American Airlines, and the pilot announced it over the public-address system on the plane. When we landed in New Mexico, Kix and I got a standing ovation. That’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

2. Not bad for a first-timer.

“1991 was our first Academy of Country Music Awards show. It was our first time to attend an awards show. We won vocal duo of the year and top new vocal duo.”

3. No disputing who had the best song that year.

“Winning 2006 song of the year as writer and producer for Believe from both the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music.”

4. Party guest: The Hag.

“Merle Haggard flying to Nashville and playing for one of our No. 1 parties in 1994.”

5. Opening act, Part I.

“Opening for the Rolling Stones in 2005.”

6. Opening act, Part II.

“Being asked to open for the Rolling Stones again.”

7. Playing the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

“It was after 9/11. Security was insane. We finished the show, ran off stage and were taken by police escort to the USA/Russia hockey game. They seated us on the glass at midcourt, next to the U.S. hockey team. It was surreal.”

8. On both their lists.

“Playing for a presidential inauguration.”

9. A different party.

“The surprise of hearing Only in America begin to play after Barack Obama’s acceptance speech for his Democratic presidential nomination.”

10. The Last Rodeo.

“Ask me again on Aug. 11.”
